Welcome to the Art Therapy Retreat

A midsummer gathering for women

Held in circle, creativity and care

A space to soften, imagine and grow

As summer opens us toward our own becoming

This retreat is an invitation to step into the fertile energy of early summer – a threshold moment in the year where light peaks, clarity sharpens, and what has been quietly forming within begins to ask for expression.

Summer blooming is not about striving.
It is about listening.
Noticing what wants to grow.
And learning how to tend to it with intention, imagination and compassion.

Audre Lorde

‘The answers you seek never come when the mind is busy, but when the body is still.’

A Therapeutic Creative Journey

This retreat is facilitated by Emma Thackham, HCPC Registered Art Psychotherapist, published children’s author, and award‑winning community artist.

Emma’s work bridges contemporary art practice, Jungian psychotherapy and therapeutic process. Her retreats offer psychologically grounded, creatively rich spaces where imagination,  creativity and rest become a tool for insight, healing and renewal.

All art sessions are gentle, invitational and non‑clinical. No previous art experience is needed. There is no expectation to share unless you wish to.

The Theme – Summer, Symbol and Self

Across the four days we will work with Jungian symbolism and archetypal imagery, creative journalling as a dialogue with the unconscious, art therapy prompts exploring identity, desire and direction, vision board creation aligned with the Summer Solstice, intention‑setting for the remaining months of the year, and creative writing workshops focused on voice, truth and narrative repair.

Summer teaches us about visibility, about allowing ourselves to be seen by our own awareness, and about claiming space without apology.

Accommodation, Rest and Water

We will be staying in a peaceful countryside venue with access to a heated swimming pool and outdoor hot tub. Water will be a central metaphor throughout the retreat – supporting rest, reflection and nervous system regulation. Each day includes spacious free time to swim, soak, walk, journal or simply be.
